Barley Basil Tomato Pilaf n Grapes Flax Seeds Smoothie

My sudden love towards barley pearls n flax seeds have made me to ensure its use in daily food course. 
Barley is a great source of dietary fiber and helps in lowering blood cholesterol and can reduce the risk of heart disease.  It also lowers sugar and helps in reducing the risk for developing type 2 diabetes. It is cholesterol free and low in fat and contains antioxidants.
Flax seed are high in fiber and they are tasty, with a nutty flavor. 
On a weekday made hearty basil tomato barley pilaf n grapes flax seed smoothie i loved both these dishes.

Ingredients for Pilaf:
1 cup – Cooked Barley pearls
1/3 cup – Fresh Basil, finely chopped
2 – Tomatoes, chopped
1/4 cup – Tomato puree
1 – onion, finely chopped 
1 clove – Garlic, minced
½ cup – Potato, finely chopped
½ cup – Frozen Green peas
1 – Bay Leaf
¼ tsp – Cumin seeds
3 – Whole Pepper corns
1 tsp – Olive oil
Salt n Pepper

In a pan add oil once hot add cumin and bay leaf roast until nice aroma comes add chopped onions sauté and add chopped potatoes and cook for 2 min closing the lid.

Now add tomatoes, red chilli powder, salt and tomato puree, mix them and cook until it softens.

Now add green peas add dash of water and cook in slow fire for another 3 minutes. Remove the bay leaf.

Add basil and the cooked barley. Mix them and serve it hot.

Grapes Flax seed smoothie:

1 cup – Black seedless grapes

2 tsp – Flax seeds

1/2 cup – Low fat yogurt

In a blender add all of the above ingredients and blend until smooth and serve cold!!

    Pulao with pearl barley?? hm..interesting! As of now i've made sweet pongal and dosa's only. Sure, will give it a try! Nice combo with the Smoothie!
