3/4 cup – Chana dal
1/2 cup – Peeled n finely chopped cucumber
1 tsp each – Ginger n garlic finely chopped
2 tsp – Green chilli paste
1/2 tsp – Red Chilli powder
Pinch of turmeric powder
Pinch of Asafoetida
1 tsp – Cumin seeds
1 tsp – oil
1 tbsp – Fresh Coriander chopped
Wash and soak the chana dal in water for at least an hour. Drain the water and keep aside.
Pressure cook dal and cucumber with pinch of turmeric and salt and 2 cups of water for 3 whistles. Once cold drain water (store it).
Heat the oil in a pan, add the cumin seeds and allow them to crackle add ginger, garlic, green chilli paste and cooked dal. Add chilli powder,salt, asafoetida and ¼ cup chana dal water and cook on a medium flame approx 5 min or until soft.
Garnish with coriander and serve hot.
